How To Care For Your Window Blinds

If you took a quick survey of the proper way to clean the window blinds in your home, probably nine out of ten times, the answers would be wrong. Oh, sure, anybody can do a fast cleaning to remove some of the dust and other stuff that has made a home in your window blinds, but since the holiday season is fast approaching, you surely don't want to hear the mantra of Aunt Mary after she rubs her fingers over a dusty spot and yells: "Don't you people ever clean your blinds?" Well, we suggest that she is on the right track and this article will point out what to do, how to do it, and what not to do.

Like any in-the-home project, especially when it targets windows, you have to start your window care some place (think the top area of the blind) since you will be dealing with window treatments such as Roman blinds. These blinds are tricky so you'll have to use your hands to hold the slats while you knock some dust off. After that, get a nice clean dusting cloth or something similar to apply polish to the finished cleaned slate.

Caution Folks!

* Water and wood are not friends, so don't go tossing water on any type of wood blinds. However, if your window blinds are really coated with dust and grime that would make Aunt Mary faint, a little dab of water might be okay if it's really necessary. * Keep track of slats you're cleaning and if you need a rest from cleaning, remember where you ended up and just attach a small clothespin to that spot.

Finally, if you plan to clean all your window blinds for the holidays, good for you! If you have a large home with a lot of windows, best you contact a professional company in town and let them handle the cleaning chore. Doing this will keep you from using your hair dryer (non-heated) from blowing dust and stuff all over the house. Also, make a note to watch them, then clean your windows lightly yourself on a regular basis.
